Our commitment

Maison Elowen wants everyone to be able to browse this shop, read about our perfumes and buy from us without barriers. This statement applies to the website at the Maison Elowen demonstration store and describes where we are, where we fall short, and how to tell us when something does not work for you.

We aim to meet level AA of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2. Under the Equality Act 2010 we have a duty to make reasonable adjustments for disabled customers, and we treat that as a duty to anticipate, not just to respond.

What we have done

• Every page can be used with a keyboard alone. The order of focus follows the order of the page, the focused element is always visible, and the bag drawer and the Fragrance Finder can be closed with the Escape key.
• A "Skip to content" link appears at the top of every page for keyboard and screen-reader users.
• Text and background colours meet a contrast ratio of at least 4.5:1 for normal text and 3:1 for large text and controls.
• Text can be resized to 200% in your browser without loss of content or function, and the layout works on screens from 320 pixels wide.
• Images that carry meaning have text alternatives. Decorative images are hidden from screen readers.
• Animation is reduced to simple fades when your device asks for reduced motion, and no content is hidden behind animation.
• Form fields have visible labels, and error messages say what went wrong and how to fix it.
• Prices are written so that a screen reader reads each one once, without hidden "regular price" or "sale price" labels when there is no discount.

Known limitations

• The checkout and payment pages are provided by Shopify and by the payment provider you choose. We have chosen them for their accessibility but we do not control their code.
• Some product photographs are still placeholders while we complete our photography; their text alternatives describe what the finished image will show.
• Third-party widgets, such as payment-instalment information, follow their own provider's accessibility standards.

How we test

We test with automated tools (axe-core) and by hand: a full keyboard pass and a reduced-motion pass. We test again after every significant change.
